Concept Art Gallery presents Full Circle: An Exhibition Considering the Circle as Shape & Metaphor. After reviewing artwork from over 90 applicants, Concept Gallery selected artwork from 34 artists. Joshua Hogan is honored that his painting, “The Notion of Cycles”, was among the selected artworks! Full Circle will open on Saturday, July 10th. Currently, Concept Gallery is open on an appointment basis from 10am-4pm Tuesday through Saturday (appointments can be scheduled here: https://concept-art-gallery.square.site/). The exhibition will close on Saturday, August 28th.
Hogan's painting aesthetic is the coalescence of relics from various movements – but he often feels most akin to the surrealists. His floating shapes are a complex web of random exchanges that lie in the unconscious and its disruptive disconnection of signified relations. The atmospheric shifts of color in his paintings introduce a new spectrum to the visible world and describe what it just might look like to see through this world.
In the earliest versions of his current portfolio, the shapes he now calls “wayfarers” resembled helicopters suspended by blades as delicate as dragon fly wings. As his artwork progresses, these shapes become increasingly abstracted. Today, their environments are vibrant, the colors laid in gradations that suggest brilliant sunsets and deep blue twilights. Whimsical and weightless, these daydreamed dirigibles drift through their magical worlds, looking both mechanical and alive, following the notion of cycles.
Joshua Hogan’s paintings have shown regionally including exhibitions in The Carnegie Museum of Art, The Westmoreland Museum of Art, and Fallingwater’s Huntington Museum as well as internationally in the Love Art Fair in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His paintings have appeared in several film productions including Bloodlines (TV Series), The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Feature Film), and Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl (Feature Film). He is currently represented by The Haen Gallery in Asheville/Brevard North Carolina and The Vault Gallery in Cambria California. His paintings were recently exhibited at The Affordable Art Fair in New York City, Aqua Art Miami Beach, and the LA Art Show.
