With Bated Breath

  • JL Shorr Gallery 101 N. Main Street Zelienople, PA United States (map)

With Bated Breath explores the threshold between perception and transformation.

At the center of the exhibition are new paintings by Joshua Hogan. Rather than describing the visible world, Hogan paints the atmosphere surrounding experience. His luminous fields of shifting color and suspended shapes suggest relationships in motion. They are moments when perception has not yet settled into certainty. The paintings exist in a state of anticipation, where shapes emerge, collide, and dissolve as though suspended in air.

Joining Hogan are Kristen Letts Kovak and Jeffery Smith, whose practices also investigate transformation through different means. Kovak's expressive abstractions evolve through layered gesture and flowing color, while Smith's intricate works reveal the hidden geometry embedded within natural materials.

Together, the exhibition invites us to inhabit a space of attentive looking. Like the held breath implied in its title, these artworks occupy the charged interval between what is seen and what is becoming.

With Bated Breath is on exhibit August 8th through September 19th. Don’t miss the #artsocial on Saturday, August 22nd from 5-8pm. It is free and open to the public.
