Piecing It Together

  • BoxHeart Gallery 4523 Liberty Avenue Pittsburgh, PA, 15224 United States (map)

Piecing It Together brings together new work by Craig Marcus, Jason Sauer, and Joshua Hogan. On view February 11 – March 20 at BoxHeart Gallery, the exhibition brings together three artists working from distinct visual languages, united by an interest in assembly, fragmentation, and perception and examines how images are constructed, interrupted, and re-formed through process.

Craig Marcus’s work begins with drawing and collage, using repetition, accumulation, and erasure to explore how images are built and destabilized over time. His compositions reference architectural space, pattern, and movement, forming visual systems that feel ordered yet continually shifting.

Jason Sauer’s practice spans painting, installation, and social sculpture. Through projects such as mobile and participatory artworks, his work investigates systems, labor, and everyday movement through the city. In the gallery, these concerns translate into materially driven works that emphasize process, reuse, and the quiet poetry of constructed form.

Joshua Hogan’s paintings explore perception through repetition, pattern, and subtle variation. Built through accumulated marks and shifts in color, his work resists fixed readings, revealing how images change through time and sustained attention.

Together, the artists resist immediacy. Piecing It Together asks us to slow down, to notice how meaning is built incrementally, how fragments relate, and how resolution remains provisional.

Join us for the #artparty on Saturday, February 14, from 5–7 PM.
